In the summer of 1969, 13-year-old Andrea’s family leaves Milanto spend their vacation in the small village of Ardena, in the hillssurrounding a large lake. In the large house, in addition to Andrea’sparents, there are two very different pairs of uncles, some cousins, the grandfather who is not resigned to growing old, and thegrandmother who is going through a delicate phase of reflection onher life: she writes poetry, talks to trees and, secretly, to the ghost ofher first love, a cadet who died in the war.Andrea, on the one hand, spends his days with his peers, with whomhe makes the first discoveries of adolescence; on the other hand, hewitnesses the problems that plague the “grown-ups”-his mother whohas a lover, his father who lectures him on behavior, his grandmotherwho has strange outings, his grandfather who undermines the maid.Meanwhile, the television broadcasts images of the landing of thefirst man on the moon. Then the summer ends if one has to returnhome. But Andrea is never the same.
